How to Build Your Dream Home

Home & Garden Blog

We all aspire to own a house where comfort and convenience will blend in to grant us a perfect abode that measures to our tastes. But what active steps should you take to achieve this? Are there things you can do today to move closer to your dreams? While there are several pieces that form the dream home puzzle, let's look at some of the most important strategies that can help you build your dream home.

Determine the cost

You will need to understand the costing of what will be required for the achievement of your home. This is where you need to consult a quantity surveyor to assist you to come up with an accurate estimate of some of the materials and items you will require. This will give you a ballpark figure of how much money you need to raise.

Make savings

You must start accumulating savings specifically geared towards putting up the first foundation stone for your dream home. This is the surest way of taking an active step instead of just dreaming about it. While securing favourable loan terms from a lender might be prudent, saving will give you the peace of mind of not entering into huge debts that might bring a myriad of financial crunches.

Assemble a design team

Having a team of designers or a professional who can put your dreams into reality is key. You might have many different ideas of how you want your house to look like but without someone to actualize them on paper, you will have nothing to work with.  The kitchen is a focal point for most people, and the designer can make your work easier by providing different kitchen designs. You will only have to choose the one that appeals to you most.

Look for a home site or land

Where do you want to live? What is the perfect view for you? Maybe you want a view that faces the ocean, or a hilly perspective or better yet near a beach. Whichever the case, you will need to find a site that appeals to your senses and aspirations.

Prepare building essentials and build your home

This will mean having the blueprints, getting a contractor, consents, permits and all material. Be checking now and then on the progress of the house to ensure that it is per your desires. Look for an interior designer once the house is done to transform it to your taste.

The path to owning your dream home might be a long and a rough one. However, it a decision you will never regret.

Creating A Child-Friendly Outdoor Space

As the parent of five children, I've picked up some tips over the years when it comes to childproofing the garden and creating an outdoor space that's safe and can be enjoyed by everyone. I started focussing on safety in the garden after my first child had an accident that could have been prevented. Thankfully, they recovered pretty quickly, but I realised how easy it is for young children to get hurt when playing outdoors. I started this blog to share what I've learned as a parent, and topics I post about include creating safe swimming pools, identifying toxic garden plants, choosing child-safe gates and maintaining outdoor play equipment. I hope you find my blog interesting and useful.
